Director of Students Welfare
Welcome to the Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW). The Directorate is located at the New Student Mess on Northern side of the University. The Directorate was established as soon as the University admitted its first JAB students as a Constituent College of JKUAT in the year 2007. The Directorate is primarily responsible for students’ welfare from the time they enter into the University until they graduate. It co-ordinates all the activities, issues or matters that affect students’ well-being be they personal, academic, social or economic. Therefore, the Directorate plays a very central role in the students’ learning and development at the University which consequently advance the achievement of DeKUT’s mission.
The DSW is responsible for providing numerous services aimed at addressing the welfare of the ever-growing students’ population at the University’s two campuses namely the Main Campus and the Nairobi CBD Campus. The division directly handles the following students welfare related services:-Guidance and Counseling, Spiritual Guidance, Games and Sports, Matter of Students Congress-DeKUTSO, Clubs and Societies, Work Study Placement, Internal Accommodation, External Accommodation, University Bursary Scheme, Entertainment and Recreation, Students’ Special Needs, Recognition Awards, Residential Sector Wardens, Orientation Process, etc.
All the above services are provided through four departments/sections namely, the Director of Students’ Welfare Office, the Counseling Department and the Sports Department. The Directorate also works in liaison with other sections of the University on various students’ matters such as the medical services, catering services, transport services, student financial services and so forth. It also acts as the link between the University management and the students.
Currently the Directorate has the following members of staff: a Director, Directorate of Students Welfare, Deputy Director, Directorate of Students’ Welfare, three Students Counselors, two Sports’ Co-coordinators, two Social Workers and one Outdoor Instructor. It has two Administrative Assistant and a Clerk.
